All about the Hips

The hips are a very important center of activity in the body. Inside the pelvis passes a large neuromuscular bundle of blood, lymph and nerves that transport nerve signals and blood to the trunk of the body. The muscles that support the hips are the abductors, adductors, hip flexors (psoas), gluteal muscles, and hamstrings.

When the muscles around the hips are tight, the spine is compromised, there is less range of motion, circulation is impacted, and the body is pulled out of alignment which affects our posture and overall health. This can bring on headaches, cause knee issues, low back pain, sciatica or an overall feeling of tightness in the body.

Emotional traumas and stress can also get lodged in to the tissue and muscles around the hip joints, which restricts the flow of energy and can be physically draining.

Does any of this sound familiar? The answer is most likely "yes" and I'm here to help.

This Sunday I will be offering a hip workshop where we'll move deeply into opening the hip area through gentle long held poses designed specifically to stretch the muscles and corresponding tissues. You will be guided through a custom tailored sequence using straps, various props and specific poses intended to increase mobility, improve flexibility, release tension in the back, and free stress held in the body.

Hip opening can create an energetic shift and bring a sense of freedom throughout the entire body. This kind of release is uplifting and energizing, which allows the mind to become clear and the body lighter.

I’ve been doing this work in my own personal practice for over a decade and although I’ve slightly modified the sequencing over the years, not much has changed, as my gentle patient approach has shown consistent results. The hips cannot be forced open. This practice requires patience, attention, and deep mindful breathing.

There are just a few spots left if you are interested. You can sign up at Plum Tree Yoga. For those of you who can't attend the live session, I'm going to be teaching a mini version of the workshop Sunday morning during our normally scheduled live stream session. You don't want to miss this. Trust me!!

See you Sunday :-)

Love & Light,
BeAnne
